On October 24th, 2026, during Linux Day Milano, I gave a talk about Meshtastic.
Below you can find the abstract of the talk, along with the video and slides.
Abstract
What happens when you combine €30 radio modules, a smartphone app, and the open-source Meshtastic protocol? An independent, encrypted, and, above all, free communication network is born. The world of radio frequencies often feels intimidating, but Meshtastic is changing the rules of the game.
This talk will explore the phenomenon, focusing on its incredible ease of use and the current state of the network in Italy—a mesh infrastructure built from the ground up, rooftop by rooftop. We will look at how to set up a node in just a few minutes straight from your phone and how the community is democratizing access to off-grid communications. You don’t need to be a ham radio operator to take back ownership of your messages: all it takes is curiosity.
